BackgroundConformal coatings represent a promising frontier in the quest to enhance lithium-ion batteries' reliability, safety, and longevity. Conventionally conformal coatings (CC) for lithium-ion batteries (LIB) are specialized coatings that protect the battery components from environmental factors such as moisture, chemicals, and mechanical stress. Lithium-ion batteries often use them to prevent corrosion and other damage from exposure to these elements. Thus, corrosion resistance and heat dissipation are the most significant advantages of applying such coatings on LIBs. These coatings enhance the durability, safety, and performance of the batteries [,,,,,, ]. Conventionally, these coatings are applied using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) or physical vapor deposition (PVD) techniques. However, the high-temperature conditions required for these techniques have made way for challenges in maintaining film thickness and mechanical film stability due to the accumulation of thermal stresses in the film, especially in PVD [8,9,10]. These challenges have led to the development of atomic layer deposition (ALD) techniques, which will be further explained in the paper [1,11,12]. Recently, conformal coatings have also been widely researched to improve the electrochemical performance of the batteries and deal with issues such as capacity fading, short-circuiting, and thermal run.
