However, establishing lithium-based technologies for mass storage encounters critical challenges such as materials availability and cost efficiency. Demand for lithium will increase steeply in energy storage demand dominated by both grid-associated applications and automotive transportation might not be overcome due to the shortage of lithium resources which needs serious attention from the scientific community [5,6]. Reasons for changing lithium to sodium are due to the similar intercalation chemistry, plentiful resources of sodium, and high recyclability [9,10]. Fig. 1 illustrates the working principle of Na-ion batteries with a view on the movement of sodium ions through electrolyte during charge-discharge process.It has been demonstrated that sodium-based technologies are capable of being utilized effectively for electrical vehicles (MW storage) through the use of Na/N. Electrolyte possesses substantial role in sodium ion batteries transporting ions between positive and negative electrodes. This component comprises a highly ionizable Na salt dissolved in appropriate non-aqueous (organic) solvents. A suitable electrolyte for NIB should satisfy the following conditions;•1.Minimal internal cell resistance/resistive heating due to higher ionic conductivity are significant factors related to high-performance electrolytes.•2.A high level of chemical stability is required for the degradation of the solvents present in the electrolyte on the surface of strongly reducing anode materials.•3.Tolerance with a high voltage difference of anode/cathode materials is dependent on high electrochemical stability, which in response leads to exhibiting suitable performance without any side reactions.
