Articles should be submitted to the Editorial Office of EPJ ST via the submission system, and should be clearly identified as intended for the topical issue “Nanofluids in Solar Energy Applications”.
To meet the global decarbonization goals of the economy, it is important to ensure a large-scale deployment of renewable energy, including photovoltaics (PV). The cumulative installed capacity of PV systems in the world at the end of 2020 was about 775 GWp (DC), and it is expected to exceed 1 TWp in 2022 to meet these goals.
Numerous advances have been made in integrating particle-based solar TES with Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) to make them less expensive, more efficient, and capable of longer continuous operation. A principal enabler has been extensive research and technology development of subcomponents, including solar receivers, storage tanks, and heat exchangers.
Solar collectors absorb the sunlight and transmit it to a receiver, which converts the solar energy into heat energy. Fluids are utilized to absorb and transfer the heat through solar collector pipes. The working fluid plays a vital role in the heat extraction mechanisms in the solar system.
Particle-based solar thermal energy storage (TES) is an attractive pathway towards operating at elevated temperatures while extending electricity production beyond diurnal periods of on-sun operation for concentrated solar power (CSP).
